Most founders don't have a business. They have a job with their name on it.

Jason spent a decade operating one, sold it in 2012, and has spent every year since showing other founders the structural work that separates a business from a busy founder.

It's a specific sequence. And when founders complete it, the business stops depending on them.

Built. Sold. Still in the trenches.

Jason started his career at Arthur Andersen, one of the largest consulting firms in the world at the time. Six months in, he knew he couldn't work for anyone but himself. He quit and launched a digital marketing agency. Twelve years later, that agency had grown into a multimillion-dollar operation serving AT&T, Hitachi, Coca-Cola, Lotus Cars, and Porsche. In 2012, he sold it.

The exit didn't end the work. It clarified it. Over the next decade of advising founders, Jason kept seeing the same pattern: smart people, good strategies, stuck businesses. The bottleneck was never the market, the team, or the tactics. It was the founder. That pattern became the Founder's Evolution Framework, five identity stages every founder has to move through to own a business that actually runs without them. Operator. Manager. Architect. CEO. Owner. Most founders stop one stage too early.

Today Jason is the author of Operator to Owner, host of Smart Agency Masterclass (900+ episodes, the #1 agency owner podcast), founder of Agency Mastery, and co-founder of askQuick.ai, the AI CFO built for small businesses. He keeps one foot in the trenches for a reason. The advice that actually helps founders comes from someone who's still running the math.

A short list of operating principles.

  • Profit over revenue.
  • Structure over hustle.
  • Systems replace founders.
  • Dependency determines role, not revenue.
  • An exit is a byproduct of ownership, not the goal.
  • You cannot outgrow yourself while you're running the business you built.

Six roles. One mission.

Everything Jason works on points at the same outcome: founders who stop being the bottleneck in their own business.
